A brief history of John "Johnfold" Wright - Born in the 80s, two weeks late and 9 ½ lbs (fat baby). My name is John and I used to play in a band called Twofold. Bruce Campbell is my favourite actor. I have an unhealthy obsession for cats/kittens and Hayley Williams from Paramore. When I was four years old I won a competition for the best Roland Rat impression. I play guitar and sing in The Don Ramos Players. We're pretty good.
History lesson over.
I have been working as a graphic designer since around 2005. I really liked the idea of creating something visual, be it for bands, concerts or magazines. There really is something satisfying about being able to create such images. I wanted to explore graphic design further to obtain a deeper understanding of the working ethics and the process behind everything involved within the topic.
I studied Graphic Design at Thames Valley University in Reading, Berkshire where I graduated with a 2:1 BA Hons. The course really showed me a wider view of what really is involved in both graphic design and illustration. We have covered topics such as typography, branding, digital communication, ideas development, digital narratives, portfolio development and professional design practice.
From what I've learnt I have been able to improve on the skills that I had when I began the course. The educational aspect has also helped me to gain work as a freelance designer. I have designed many posters for gig promoters, CD artwork for bands and in January 2008 I began an internship as a junior designer at Xtaster, a PR company in London that deals with press for many well-established and unsigned bands across the globe.
I draw my influences from many artists. Some of my favourites are Brian Ewing, Tara McPherson and Emek to name a few. The gig poster designs of the last 50 years are also an inspiration on me, with artists such as Frank Kozik, Art Chantry and Jeff Kleinsmith.
I have a love and passion for both music and art. I like to go to shows and see what the music scene has to offer these days. I am constantly in talk with many underground bands about artwork for albums, ep's or T-shirts. I have been playing in and out of bands for over 10 years. During this time I have managed to build up a contact list of artists and record labels who have asked me to design them all kinds of work.
I have dabbled in a little photography work. Some of my photos were included on the Hell Is For Heros Live DVD (demonVISION 2005) and I have also taken pictures for The Ordinary Boys and The Automatic.
An all round good egg.
